Navigating professional development: A gamified workshop experience

Recently, Charlotte Smail and Sandra Nelson had the pleasure of joining the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s Mine Safety Directorate Inspectors Forum. In a whirlwind 105 minutes, we delved into the expansive realm of “Professional Development” through a gamified workshop.

Our focus on gamification wasn’t just about fun; it was a strategic approach to deliver an immersive and thought-provoking session. By creating a dynamic platform, participants were able to navigate real-world scenarios, prompting them to think strategically about their career journeys and consider the implications of their choices.

The goal? To spark meaningful discussions among participants. We wanted individuals to connect with what truly matters to them and identify their core motivators, paving the way for informed decision-making and pursuing professional development goals.

What participants said—

“The game was very enlightening – very good activity”

“Helped with decision making about career path”

“Making us think about a topic we probably don’t think about strategically!”

“Presenters very professional, friendly and engaging”
